Resident Spotlight: Larry Schnicker
Residents have their own unique reasons for choosing Hamilton Memorial Rehabilitation & Health Care Center. For resident Larry Schnicker, it’s all about the family connection. His mother stayed at our community long before Larry moved in. For as long as she lived here, the skill and compassion of our caregivers impressed the whole family. “They were good to my mother,” he says – so when Larry needed help, our community was the only option he considered.
Get to Know Larry Schnicker
Born and raised in Dahlgren, Illinois, Larry has strong roots in the area. He left education in his third year of high school to work in South Elgin where he lived with his uncle. Though he was often quite busy, Larry made frequent trips to his hometown to visit his loved ones.
As a consummate family man, Larry raised two children alongside his wife, Betty. Informed by his deeply held faith, Larry has a keen sense of compassion and remains committed to caring for his loved ones, no matter what. Everyone who knows Larry describes him as a good Christian, a great father and a loyal friend. Aside from spending time with family and friends, Larry also enjoys catching his favorite shows on TV.
What Larry Loves About Living Here
For Larry, living at Hamilton Memorial means more than care – it’s about love. Since moving in a year and a half ago, Larry quickly found a network of new friends and cherished caregivers. “I’ve got good friends here,” he said. Buoyed by the support of his family at home and the new people he met at our community, Larry says, “I’ve had more love here than I ever had.”
Larry is particularly thankful for his nurses, Yvette, Karen and Kim. He says they’ve been “[his] partners through all of this,” supporting him through hard times and celebrating happy moments. As a cancer survivor, Larry says the wonderful care he receives makes him happy that he chose a home at Hamilton Memorial.
