It’s National Activities Professional Week, Our Team is “Virtually” Unmatched.

Hamilton residents never experienced a dreary day during the last year thanks to the exceptional talents of our Life Enrichment team. Our activity staff went above and beyond to keep residents engaged and happy despite social distancing. Their efforts were unprecedented in supporting emotionally isolated residents with new technology, new program modalities and virtual activities. Life Enrichment teams have had to completely change the way they operate and work against every instinct of bringing people together in 2020. They have had to pivot hard to continue to meet the needs of our residents with new resources and rules.

A Flair for Creativity and Always Ready with a Smile.

The morale of our community is often on their shoulders and they have taken on that responsibility with pride and perseverance. They have implemented individualized 1:1 house calls in residents’ rooms stepping up with a much-needed personal visit. In fact, our activity director personally visited each resident in their room three times a day.  In addition, due to COVID-19 restrictions and quarantining, innovative sensory activities were developed for each resident to enjoy daily.

Examples of Innovative Activities in Our Senior Living Community.

Within the McLeansboro, Illinois area, Hamilton residents have reached out with their time and talents to help those in need. Residents and staff recently made dog toys to be donated to the local animal shelter.

Virtual activities were added to the daily calendar of events such as video streams of church services. A variety of streamlined videos were also used for exercising, meditation, music and movies during the times when residents were restricted to their rooms allowing all residents the ability to participate in an activity simultaneously.

Because our activity director and her assistant are both licensed cosmetologists, our community was able to generously provide services such as manicures to residents at times when other providers were unable to do so. Further sharing her generosity, our activity director also shopped on her personal time during the pandemic for clothing and personal items for residents who had no family. She also brought residents homemade treats that corresponded to daily activities.

Social Engagement Enhances Seniors’ Lives.

Studies have shown that socialization is an important ingredient to help seniors thrive and enjoy a fulfilling life. Our Life Enrichment team met the challenge of a pandemic head on to ensure residents were calm, connected and engaged during a very long year and we consider them all to be super stars!
